I’ve been wanting to do a review of Pure Delish since I got the idea for this blog. They were having a sale today, so I figured it was a perfect time to kill two birds with one stone–re-acquaint myself with the shop, and do a little shopping.
Pure Delish is located near Downtown Culver City, near Washington Boulevard and Overland, across from the Culver Center shopping center. It’s conveniently located near the Culver CityBus lines 1 and 3; in fact, there is a stop for the Culver City 1 right in front of the shop. This is how I discovered it two years ago, in fact; I got off the bus to go to the market in the shopping center across the street when I noticed a riotous explosion of PINK!!! that I had never noticed before. Curious, I detoured into the shop to check it out, and what a find it was!
The shop itself is pretty small compared to other shops I’ve been in, but it packs a whole lot of amazing stuff into that space. It’s cozy and well-lit with an upbeat vibe that isn’t at all shady or skeezy. The staff is super friendly and helpful. The “delicious” theme is in evidence throughout the store, as there are plenty of candy novelties, such as candy G-strings and bras (think of the candy necklaces most of us had when we were kids), suckers, candy buttons, and of course an assortment of flavored edible lubricants (more on those in a bit). The awesome staff also wear uniforms that are reminiscent of candy striper outfits in pink and white. This really adds to the sense that this store is here for grown-ups who want to have fun in safe, sane, and consensual ways. You come to Pure Delish to stock up on ways to kick up your heels and have fun. If you’re grumpy or pouty or prudish, Pure Delish probably isn’t for you. But if you’re out to celebrate the joy of sensuality and sexuality, it’s a fantastic little place.
The store’s focus is on sexy lingerie, but that’s not all they stock. Currently, their sexy packaged costumes are on sale for $20 each, or three for $50. Their clothing has a pretty impressive range, from sexy underwear to tarty accessories suitable for wearing out to the club. The current selection is pretty well dominated by costumes, what with Halloween being so recently past (hence the sale). They also boast a fantastic selection of shoes, stockings, socks, legwarmers, and currently have a display of adorable fuzzy animal hats.
Aside from clothing, they also have a nice selection of novelties (penis straws, naughty games, party favors…all sorts of things suitable for any bachelorette party), a wall full of toys, and a modest rack of instructional DVDs.
The toys on offer range from high end products from Tantus and Lelo (in fact, they have some really impressive display cases for their Lelo offerings), and more modest and standard fare for beginners and those still trying to figure out what they like. They have a few items that appeal to those with kinkier tastes, but these offerings are toward the lighter end of things; fuzzy handcuffs bondage tape (EXCELLENT stuff, though, since it only adheres to itself and not skin, hair or clothing…perhaps I’ll review my roll later on), simple riding crops, some very light floggers, and some cuffs and collars. Not a bad selection, and definitely geared toward those who might be new to or experimenting with BDSM, or who want something simple for an evening of fantasy to spice things up. Though most of their toys are in the flavor of vibrators and dildos, they do have a small sampling of anal plugs, stroker toys for men, and a couple of different strap-on harnesses. In short, there’s a little something for everyone at Pure Delish.
In terms of vibrators and dildos, there is a shelf that has “testers” lined up for customers to handle; to feel the texture, or turn on and gauge the strength and volume of vibration. I’m impressed whenever I encounter a store that offers floor models for people to handle, so Pure Delish definitely earns brownie points for that.
They also have a decent selection of various lubricants, most of which have a tester bottle available–all of the flavored lubes for sure. When I saw the tester bottle for Sliquid’s Strawberry Pomegranate lube, I HAD to try it. Oh yeah, that stuff is going on my wish list. Some of their lube selection also have sample sizes available. Seeing this, I felt a bit like a kid in a candy store (in a way, I suppose I was, really), and I picked out a handful of the samples, which I’ll be reviewing in the future.
Other things to note:
- Parking: There is no dedicated parking lot. Limited metered parking (free after 6 PM) is available on the street in front of the shop, otherwise there’s the surrounding residential areas and the large lot for the Culver Center across the street.
- Shopping baskets: When you enter the shop, look down and to your left. There are small shopping baskets on the floor in front of the counter. I didn’t notice these until I was leaving. Oops!
- Classes: According to their website, dance classes will resume in December. Their Culver City location has a dance studio where classes are offered. Need a pole dancing pole? Pure Delish sells those, too!
- Discretion is the better part of valor: My purchase was neatly wrapped up in pink tissue paper, and then tucked safely into an otherwise unmarked and nondescript pink plastic bag. Totally sufficient to keep nosy observers in the dark as to what your swag truly entails.
- Twice as delicious: Pure Delish also has a Santa Monica location: 1929 Lincoln Blvd Santa Monica, CA 90405
